A few things to tempt you

I have been busy sewing, making some lovely things to tempt you into The Hub next week, 12th – 17th November. Do pop in, you can find more information here.

So here is a photo just of the things I made today.

Hand sewn items

Ideas for things you could make at The Hub.

I have had a think about what to charge and decided I want to cover my costs but mainly I want people to come in and have a go to see what fun it is and get them interested to do more sewing. So I thought I could charge say £3 per item or   another thought was to have a box where people could put in what they felt it was worth. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

Here is a rough schedule of the kinds of things you can expect at The Hub. Any body can pop in any time, with or without children, for as short or as long as you like. In the evening are bookable classes, these are £20 and include everything (except a loo! I hope the local pub are friendly.).

An idea of what you could do if you were to pop in to The Hub.

My first shop

I was doing the errands in Thornbury the other day and spotted a poster, it said, “Are you a local artist/craftsperson looking for somewhere to exhibit, sell or demonstrate? Short term occupancy available now.

I had to find out more and now I have my very own short term occupancy, I couldn’t resist. So from 12th – 17th November I will be in The Hub,(was Bibelot), letting people have a go at sewing for themselves. Anyone can come and take home a project they have made.

Pop in and have a go.

Holiday Sewing Club Preparations

Image

Preparations for the holiday sewing clubs are well underway. I have some gorgeous coloured felts to chose from and several animal pincushion patterns ready to go. Will you chose something summery, a green cushion with flowers on or maybe Team GB colours, a red, white and blue cushion?

For those who can use a sewing machine we have skirts with a sash belt, I have some lovely bright, tie dye type material for that among others, oh the decisions.

We will have SEW much fun!

I have my Bernina, Artista 185 home again. It had to go away for 6 weeks to be repaired, the mother board had died. It had a full service at the time too. I am just so pleased, I rushed home to give it a go, the sheer bliss of seeing its little computer screen light up was wonderful. It is so quiet and smooth. Thanks Derek at Westend Sewing, Cheltenham.

Monday Sewing Class

A lovely class today, the children worked well, with quiet chatter. Half the class were engrossed in decorating the front of their square bears, choosing buttons and embroidery thread colours, the other half were getting to grips with sewing around corners and curves, in preparation for sewing their lavender hearts together.

After School Sewing Club

Monday's After School Club

It’s a super room to work in a library/computer room, plenty of space for machines and tables for working round. I must remember to sit on a chair or kneel beside a child I am helping, rather than bending my back which takes hours for the pain to subside!

Fun at the Fair

I got to the Vintage and Handmade Fair at opening time, 10am. There was already a long queue. I met a friend and her daughter there. We all had great fun looking at all the fabulous things, fabrics, clothes, trinkets, refashioned items, vintage books etc. I found a present for my daughter, which I can’t show you yet because she might see it before her birthday, also a present for my mother for Mothers’ Day. I bought some lovely used mangle linen, I intend to make all sorts of goodies with it. First I fancy making hand embroidered buttons with it.

My purchases

After the shopping we needed refreshing and I had tea and lemon cake at a Deli in Chipping Sodbury, called The Hamptons. My friends had some delicious foods. I will be going there again.

Square Bear

May I introduce you to square bear. I have some level 2 children sewing this while the lower group catch up. He is so sweet with his little shirt and buttons. I got the instructions from Sew Darn Cute by Jenny Ryan. When the children have finished I will upload pics of their square bears, it will be like a whole family of square bears.

You might recognise the type of photo this is. I am now taking daily (nearly) photos with the iphone hipstamatic app.
